Message Title: Easter Joy

Scripture: Luke 24:36-41 NRSV

Bottom Line: Let's Celebrate His Resurrection everyday! Be Joyful!

Small Group Check in:

  1. How is it with your soul?

  2. Prayer Request? Praises?

Ice Breaker:

  1. What brings you joy?

  2. Describe a place or an event where you experienced something that was so good.....something that was almost too good to be true.

  3. When did God become more than just a word for you?

Overview:

  • We are to joyfully celebrate every Sunday! Sunday is a celebration of God transforming the Sabbath into the Lord's Day through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Not just one of them, but all of them!

  • The Jesus story never ends. It continues into a new creation.

  • To believe in Jesus is to believe in the resurrection. It is the pinnacle on which our faith rests.

  • Easter brings affirmation that Easter people know joy.

  • Resurrection is the act of being brought from death to unending life. It is an eternal communion with God that begins on Earth, but will ultimately have no end - not in this world or the next.

Discussion Questions:

  1. What emotions do you associate with Jesus' resurrection?

  2. What does the resurrection mean to you?

  3. What emotion do you feel when you encounter the risen Christ in your life?

  4. Why are the disciples afraid when they first see Jesus? What three things does Jesus do to try to calm their fears? (vs 36, 39, 43)

  5. Jesus' words to his disciples, "Peace be with you!" are more than a greeting. It is a gift to them. What does it mean to have peace with God? How does any sinful person receive divine peace?

  6. The disciples struggled with doubt and uncertainty, even with the risen Jesus in their presence. (vs 38-41) how does Jesus confront their uncertainty? How does this speak to your uncertainty about things in your life?

  7. Jesus even after resurrected continued to bear the scars from his crucifixion. What does this reveal about Him?

  8. How can you live joyfully beyond Easter?

  9. How might you foster an attitude of joy in your life?

Challenge:

Don't forget small groups are made up of 3 aspects: fellowship, grow, and serve.

Each semester, please find ways as a small group to serve together. If you need assistance finding a serve project, please contact Allison Kickham.
