Scripture: Titus 1

Watch Online

Group Check in:

  1. How is it with your soul?

  2. Prayer Request? Praises?

  3. How has God shown up in your life this week?

Overview:

  • What’s this message about? God, source of grace and author of peace, has been working all along- before we were aware- to bring us home temporally and eternally. Our response to God’s salvific work can’t be to hold people hostage or in bondage to a law that does not have the power to save. Rather, our response, must be a life that matches the gift of grace (generous, full of love) and peace (aimed at reconciling ourselves and our neighbors to God)

  • Titus is written by Paul, whose place of authoriy is second only to Jesus in shaping the early church. Paul planted churches all across the Mediterranean Sea. These letters reveal the first attemots at understanding how the Gospel is to be lived out. In other words, the people who lived closest to Jesus were showing us how to live in light of Jesus.

  • Paul is coaching Titus about how to build a community that can withstand the particular challenges of Cretan church. Paul lays it out pretty plainly for Titus so that he can't miss it.

  • The path for the church in Crete:

  1. Relies on the foundation of faith.

  2. Depends on leaders, but not in a bureaucratic senese

  3. Requires commitment to life that matches belief.
